OSWEGO, IL — Andy’s Frozen Custard got one step closer to becoming a reality when a groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon in Oswego.

Several members from both Andy’s and the Village of Oswego were on hand to kick off construction of the new building at 1272 US Route 34.

And Andy himself was even there to say a few words.

“This is my first groundbreaking ceremony. We’ve always had grand openings and ribbon cuttings,” Andy Kuntz said. “We are honored to be in Oswego. We are honored to have our sixth store in the Chicagoland area. We are very excited.”

Kuntz said he looked at Oswego five years ago as a potential new location, but felt it was a little early to open.

But that’s not the case any longer, as the new store is set to open in July.

Also in attendance was Oswego Village President Gail Johnson, who said any time a new business opens in Oswego it means good things.

“It’s another place for our residents to go, it’s another addition to our sales tax base, which is good for the residents. And it makes us special,” Johnson said. “It gives you that splash. Custard places, coffee places, any family owned business is a plus to the community.”

And her verdict on the custard?

“Awesome. Delicious. Creamy. Wonderful,” Johnson said.
