On the same day his predecessor was officially elected the new Kendall County Sheriff, Oswego’s new police chief took the oath of office.
Former Capt. Jeff Burgner was sworn in during a special Oswego village board meeting Tuesday, according to the Beacon-News.
Burgner will take over for Chief Dwight Baird, who ran unopposed for Kendall County Sheriff. Baird has been in the role since 2003.

The new chief will take the reins as the village board begins talks about a possible new police station, the Beacon reported.
“My goal is to provide the best police service for the community. I’ll be open to the direction given and do the research requested on a new police facility,” Burgner said.

Burgner is a graduate of Naperville North High School and has served as the Oswego Police Department’s spokesman. In July, he told Patch he would likely hand that role off to another officer.
