• Chicago Driver Charged In Hit-And-Run Of Bicyclist, 15: Oswego Police (patch.com) — Oswego police say a Chicago driver has been charged after a 15-year-old Oswego bicyclist was struck in a hit-and-run at Route 31 and Washington Street. Deputies located a matching car shortly after the crash, and the teen was hospitalized for treatment while the investigation continues and additional charges are being reviewed.

• Oswego takes down Geneva in a high-flying shootout (suntimes.com) — Oswego High School's Panthers edged Geneva 44-42 in a thrilling, offense-heavy football showdown, highlighted by junior running back Ammar Banire's 195 rushing yards and late go-ahead touchdown. Senior quarterback Drew Kleinhans and tight end Ryan Wynn powered a potent passing attack, giving Oswego a confidence-boosting early-season win after last year's deep playoff run.

• Frankfort First Grader Wins Poetry Competition (patch.com) — An Illinois-wide youth poetry competition is honoring 39 students, with winners and honorable mentions coming from communities including Oswego, Aurora, Frankfort, Chicago and more. The Gwendolyn Brooks Youth Poetry Awards celebrate K-12 poets exploring family, identity and place, with winners receiving cash prizes, publication and a chance to read in Chicago this September.
