Coroner IDs Missing Man Found Dead In Oswego
The man, who was found unresponsive in a wooded park Dec. 3, was reported missing by the Oswego Police Department in late October.
OSWEGO, IL — One week after a man was found dead in a wooded area near Jaycee Park in Oswego, the Kendall County Coroner's Office identified him as 54-year-old John Martin.
Martin, a resident of Oswego, was reported "endangered and missing" by the Oswego Police Department in late October.
The results of an autopsy confirmed Martin died from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound, Patch reported. Police were called to the area near the Oswego park, off Douglas and Saugatuck roads, around noon Dec. 2 when they found the unresponsive man.

Officials originally said they would not identify the man until his next of kin was notified and a formal confirmation was made. The coroner's office provided an update Thursday after completing a scientific analysis, according to the department.

In an update of their own Friday, Oswego police said they do not plan to release any additional information since there was "no criminal aspect" to Martin's disappearance.
"The Oswego Police Department sends its condolences to John Martin's family and friends and asks the public to respect their privacy during this difficult time," officials said in a news release.
