D308 School Goes Remote For Snowstorm, Cancels Extracurriculars

OSWEGO, IL — All Oswego School District 308 schools will be taught remotely Thursday as a precaution for the incoming snowstorm, officials announced.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the Chicago area, which goes into effect at 6 p.m. Thursday and lasts until 6 a.m. Saturday. An accumulation between 2 to 5 inches is expected.

Wind gusts up to 55 mph as well as dangerously cold temperatures as low as 25 to 30 degrees below zero could accompany the snow Thursday. Falling and blowing snow could cause "white-out conditions" with zero visibility at times, Patch reported.

The e-learning day Thursday closes out the year for students who start winter break Friday and return to school Jan. 9.

Although high school students were not scheduled to be in class in person Thursday and will not follow the remote learning plan, they are asked to complete their Google attendance form by 9:30 a.m. Officials advised students scheduled to take make-up exams to reach out directly to their teachers.
