D308 Teachers To Host Meeting About 2023 Washington DC Trip

The 2022 outing was a special one for students and staff as it was the first time in two years they were able to embark on the trip.

AURORA, IL — Each spring, Oswego eighth-graders embark on a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the country's capital, see the sites and learn history. Next March won't be any different.

The 2022 field trip was a special one for students and staff as it was the first time in two years they were able to travel. For the first time in about 20 years of annual excursions, the trip was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The upcoming trip will take place during spring break — from Sunday, March 26 to Tuesday, March 28, 2023. The group will fly to Washington, D.C. and travel by private coach while there.

The new school year may have just barely started, but organizers are in the planning phases, and more than 50 students are already signed up, Marcia Carino, a chaperone and eighth-grade teacher at Traughber Junior High, told Patch.

Organizers are planning to cap registration at 90 students, Carino said.

Oswego School District 308 doesn't sponsor the trip, organized by Carino and Michael Linden, an eighth-grade teacher at Bednarcik Junior High. The two have traveled with students to Washington, D.C. for more than 15 years, Carino said.

To learn more about the opportunity for their kids, parents can attend an information session Sept. 1. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at Traughber Junior High School, 570 Colchester Drive.

During the three-day trip, students will see major memorials and monuments in Washington, D.C, including the Washington National Cathedral, Arlington National Cemetery, the Holocaust Memorial Museum, and Capitol Hill, among other noteworthy sites.

Parents are invited to join the trip, which will be chaperoned by District 308 teachers, to enjoy the sites themselves, organizers said.

Additional information about the trip can be found by contacting Linden and Carino at oswegotodc@gmail.com.
