OSWEGO, IL — Formerly working at a middle school, Kristen E. Salwierak has been hired as Boulder Hill Elementary School's new assistant principal. The Oswego School District 308 Board of Education approved the administrator's hiring at Monday's board meeting.

Prior to getting the role at the new school, Salwierak was an assistant principal at Central Middle School in Tinley Park. It's there she started her career in education as a science teacher, a position she held for 10 years, according to a news release. She became the dean of students at the school in 2016, and two years later transitioned to working as an instructional coach implementing social-emotional programs for Tier II and III intervention students.

"Her work with and dedication to diverse populations will be an asset to the Boulder Hill community," Lindsay Allen, director of elementary education, said in a statement on Friday.

Salwierak got her Bachelor of Arts from Governors State University and her Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. She also has a master's in principal leadership from Governors State.

"I am so happy to be joining the SD 308 family and am thrilled to be working with elementary students and supporting them in any way that I can," she said in a statement. "I look forward to building up our school community and am excited to promote a positive learning culture. My family motto is: Every moment counts, we appreciate every day we have, and don't take a moment for granted. One of my favorite quotes is, 'It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped,' by Tony Robbins. I plan on bringing this thinking with me to Boulder Hill Elementary as I support students, staff and families in their learning experiences."
