Oswego, IL — Everyone wonders about the cleanliness of the restaurants they eat in. But if you stop to eat at the Oswego Family Restaurant, it appears you don’t have much to worry about.

The business was given a sanitation score of 86/100 during an inspection by the Kendall County Health Department March 23. Not too shabby.

The health department noted the following infractions:

  • Chemical spray bottles hung on shelf next to dry storage food products and clean dishes. The correction was made immediately. According to the health department, all toxic chemicals should be stored below any food or food contact surfaces.
  • A container of pickles was stored directly on top of a food product without a barrier (foil, plastic wrap) between it.
  • The walk-in cooler’s door gasket was completely separated and in disrepair.
  • A wet wiping towel was stored on a cutting board. The health department advises to store towels in sanitizer in between uses.
  • Repair leaks present as 3-basin sink faucet.
  • Clean and degrease floor behind and under cookline.
  • Replace broken floor tiles at server area.
  • Replace/repair walk-in cooler floor. The health department says it was completely rusted out at the entrance.

The business was also ordered to clean and sanitize the following items.

  • Inside of microwave.
  • Blade and hard to reach areas of meat slicer.
  • Inside reach-in freezer in basement (Ice cream drippings were accumulating).
  • Cooler door gaskets.

It should be noted that the business was praised for having "great food temps" and proper date labeling.

So, some stuff needs to be amended, but all-in-all, it appears to be a relatively clean and safe place to eat.
