Join the Oswego Citizen's Police Academy

Students will learn various functions and duties of the police department and its officers. The deadline for applications is Jan. 22.

The Oswego Police Department is still accepting applicants for its Citizen’s Police Academy tentatively set to begin Feb. 3

Students will learn various functions and duties of the police department and its officers, according to a release from the department. Some of the topics will include patrol, investigation, crime scene investigation, DUI enforcement and criminal law.

Open dialogue and questions are encouraged. Students may also participate in practicals, which allow the class to step into the role of the officer in various situations, Graduates of the class are eligible to join the Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni.

Classes will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and will run for 13 weeks. Students will meet in the community room at the Oswego Law Enforcement Center. Classes will have a minimum of 12 participants and a maximum of 20. Students must be at least 18 years old and reside, own property or operate a business within the village.

An application may be picked up at the Oswego Police Department or completed online at oswegopoliceil.org. The application deadline for the February class is noon on Jan. 22.
