Kindred Spirits Leads Customers on Journey of Self-Discovery

Route 34 location has become perfect spot for healing.

Do you know enough about yourself?

If the answer is no, Kindred Spirits Intuitive Arts Center might be able to help you find some answers. Teachers and healers with different specialties offer opportunities across the self-discovery spectrum: from yoga to the paranormal.

As director of Kindred Sprits, Rebecca Sommers strives to “match you with who you need to be with.” She will assess your individual needs and recommend different meditations, classes or individual sessions to help you achieve your goals.

“If you are stressed out, then do something different to break the cycle,” said Sommers. “Come in and learn something new.”

Counselors at Kindred Spirits have different methods and specializations for providing personal exploration. Many people don’t recognize their warning signs and they end up hitting a wall, explained Sommers. Meditation and other sessions help people choose another path and have a better quality of life where they are not over stimulated by society, said Sommers.

Sommers has an “extremely warm, welcoming energy,” said Kindred Spirits teacher Ashley Michelle.

"(We strive to provide) atmosphere where people feel comfortable to be themselves and know there is no judgment. We offer a community-type feeling,” Michelle said.

Twice each month, Kindred Spirits offers a Mind, Body and Spirit Fair to provide a sample of opportunities to interested individuals.

Kindred Spirits offers an array of classes – some meet weekly while others are one-time events. Popular classes include: genealogy, tarot card reading, psychic skills, paranormal and pyrography, which is the art of wood burning. Their online calendar offers various classes and how to register.

Sommers said she enjoys incorporating local talent like author Bambi Harris, who taught creative writing through a four-hour workshopping opportunity.

Many individuals come to Kindred Spirits to meditate. Meditation opportunities include yoga, sound vibration, music and drumming. In drumming, those meditating “feel the beat and are distracted by the sound,” said Sommers. Guided meditations are also available.

Kindred Spririts opened in Oswego in January 2010 and moved a few steps to their present location in the larger cabin in January 2011.

Sommers has lived in Oswego for five years. She drove past the cabin and saw a “For Rent” sign.

“It just happened; it felt like the right place,” said Sommers of renting the cabin and opening Kindred Spirits.

Sommers said she liked the energy of the land and that the cabin was located in the heart of the community.

Kindred Spirits also has a tea room that overlooks Waubonsee Creek, which flows into the Fox River. Tea and baked goods are offered through an honor system – a donation is requested. The cabin was the location of a tea room 30 years ago and Sommers appreciates the “call back to older times” in offering a tea room again in the same location.

”It’s like we have an invisibility cloak and the people who need to find us do,” said Sommers of their location.

The tea room is also available for special events like bridal and baby showers.

Kindred Spririts Intuitive Arts Center is located at 4025B Route 34 and is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday.
