LongHorn Steakhouse Could Open in Oswego Next Year

The business would be located in the Prairie Market retail center.

OSWEGO, IL — A new steakhouse could be coming soon to Oswego.

LongHorn Steakhouse is looking into setting up shop in the Prairie Market retail center on Route 34, Oswego Village Administrator Dan Di Santo confirmed to Patch.

Di Santo has recommended the Village Board approve a sales tax incentive agreement, especially since a steakhouse is not something residents have.

"There is no steakhouse in town, we often hear from our residents that they

desire a steakhouse, and our hotels have mentioned that guests often ask
for the closest steakhouse and they have to send them out of town," Di Santo told Patch in an email. "A steakhouse is also a good fit for this site since adjacent restaurants have placed so many restrictions on what type of restaurant can locate there; no burger joints, Asian restaurants, Italian restaurants, 'varied American fare' restaurants, and barbecue restaurants. As such, this lot has remained vacant and off the sales tax roles for a decade. The alternative development on this site was a dental office and paint store."

In the agreement, the steakhouse would receive a rebate of $180,000 over a ten-year period while the village could gain $650,000 in sales tax, according to WSPY.

"The Village Board will consider the sales tax rebate at their August 16 meeting," DiSanto said. "I do not expect anything else to hold up this development."

If approved, the restaurant could open by August 2017. Talks for the restaurant began in February 2016.
