Man Shot by Oswego Police Officers
The officers opened fire at the man after he allegedly raised his rifle toward them.

Two officers from the Oswego Police Department were involved in a shooting early Saturday morning, according to a release from the department.
Police received a call from a man at around 12:16 a.m. Aug. 29 from the 0-100 block of Ashlawn Avenue saying a “massacre” would occur in the city and that he would shoot himself in the street, according to the release. The man then hung up the phone. When police called back, they offered to send someone to talk to him, but he said he’d shoot them, as well. The call was disconnected again and when police called back the man said he had a gun.

Dispatch was able to determine a location and sent two officers to the man’s location at around 12:18 a.m. When police arrived, they encountered a 24-year-old man outside a home armed with a rifle. The man raised the rifle toward the officers. According to the release, the man did not comply with orders from the officers and, fearing for their safety, they fired at him.
The man was stuck in the the torso and police gave first aid to him. The Oswego Fire Protection District took him to an area hospital for further medical attention. He underwent surgery and is now in recovery.

The officers involved in the shooting, an 18-year veteran of the force and a nine-year veteran, were not injured, but did go to a hospital for an examination, the release said.
The Illinois State Police has been called and will be conducting an independent investigation of the incident. The Oswego Police Department is a CALEA accredited agency and internal policies are in place for incidents like this.
Oswego police were assisted by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery and Aurora Police Departments in the initial response.
