Oswego Christmas Walk Returns To Original Format On Main Street

The Christmas Walk will kick off the holiday season in Oswego Dec. 3. The Cookie Walk and Christmas Drive-Thru event are also returning.

OSWEGO, IL — The annual Christmas Walk is returning to Oswego Dec. 3, and it'll look much like it did in years when COVID-19 didn't cause disruptions. Taking place along Main Street from 4:30-8:30 p.m., the tradition will kick off the holiday season in the village.

Viewing performances from local groups, ice sculpting and visiting Santa are a few of the activities that will take place the Friday of the event. Oswego organizations and local businesses will also have interactive booths set up along the street.

The night will end with the popular Silent Light Parade, where emergency vehicles process down Main Street.

During the Christmas Walk, guests can visit the Little White School Museum, at 72 Polk St., for holiday music concerts by Oswego junior high school students. They'll take place in the historic Roger Matile Room, and afterward, people can walk through the museum gallery.

Thompson Junior High will kick off the concert series at 6:30 p.m., followed by Bednarcik Junior High at 7:15 p.m. and Traughber Junior High at 8 p.m.

Oswego still held its Christmas Walk event in 2020 but made changesto the lineup. The walk-through event required one-way foot traffic, and the Toyland Train and trolleys stayed in the station. Although outdoors, masks and gloves were also required to be worn.

This year, the village didn't make a formal mask requirement for the event and currently in Illinois, masks are only required to be worn when indoors.

The Christmas Drive-Thru is also returning on Dec. 10, taking place at Venue 1012, located at 1012 Station Drive. The celebration will feature music, holiday displays and special guest appearances.

What's the holiday season without eating lots of cookies? From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 4, visitors can buy a tin and collect a cookie from each participating downtown business as part of the Cookie Walk.

Holiday Care-avans will also be making their routes throughout the village on Dec. 8 and Dec. 10. Both routes are different — the Care-avan takes off from Oswego East High School on the first night and from Venue 1012 on the second night. The Care-avans are expected to run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. both days.

Details and a map of the routes can be found on the village's website.

As the events near, more updates will be provided on Oswego's Facebook page.
