Oswego Christmas Walk Still Happening Despite Recent Snow

The Village said the recent snow won't stop Christmas Walk this Friday, Nov. 30, as only a few clouds are expected, according to forecast.

OSWEGO, IL — This week's heavy snow keeping you inside? Don't let it stop you from attending the 2018 Oswego Christmas Walk, which despite the weather will still take place throughout downtown Oswego Friday, Nov. 30. The event is presented by Allied First Bank and will be held from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with more than 75 activities for families to enjoy. The Village of Oswego said as of Tuesday morning, weather reports for Friday were calling for temperatures in the low-thirties and a few clouds, but no snow or rain.

“Winter’s early arrival has created some interesting challenges for our planning team,” said Community Engagement Coordinator for Special Events Julie Hoffman, in a release. “In addition to long shifts clearing snow from the streets, our Public Works crews have been preparing parade floats, hanging our new downtown holiday decorations and working on all of the logistics associated with producing such a large-scale event, but we couldn’t be more excited for the festive atmosphere that a little snow on the ground provides.”

Hoffman also said there will be warming stations throughout the event, in addition to several downtown shops being open for holiday shopping.

The annual Christmas Walk usually attracts between 5,000 and 6,000 festival-goers to downtown, according to a release, which is why Oswego police want motorists to expect traffic congestion and delays. According to police, motorists should especially expect delays on US Route 34 through downtown Oswego between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., in addition to Madison Street and Washington Street near downtown. Police said travelers may want to consider alternate routes if they aren't headed to the festive fun downtown.

To help avoid congestion and parking searches, utilize the free trolley service which will be operating from Oswego High School to downtown Oswego all evening, according to a release.
