OSWEGO, IL — To show support for Ukraine amid the ongoing war, the clock tower at Oswego Village Hall shines blue and yellow each night.

The village's Public Works Department came up with the idea, and after getting approval from the Village Board, the clock began shining the colors of Ukraine's flag March 1, said Bridget Bittman, community engagement coordinator for marketing.

"Staff came up with this idea to show support for the people of Ukraine and the board was in full agreement," Mayor Troy Parlier told Patch in a statement. "Switching the lights to blue and yellow is our way to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine as they fight for freedom and self-determination."

With St. Patrick's Day right around the corner, Bittman said the lights will change to green March 16. But starting March 18, blue and yellow will once again start shining to continue expressing support.

The LED lights and colors are charged by the Public Works team to reflect holidays, seasons and special events and are programmed to turn on once it gets dark.
