Oswego District 308 Schools Go Remote For 1st Snowstorm Of 2024

OSWEGO, IL — All Oswego School District 308 schools closed Tuesday as a result of the first snowstorm of 2024.

In an alert published at 5 a.m. Tuesday, officials cited the National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory — it was in place until Tuesday morning for all of Chicagoland — that warned of slippery roads, hazardous and difficult travel, high winds, and reduced visibility.

"Travel on rural and open roadways is not recommended, which would be necessary for many students and staff attending our schools," district officials said.

The weather service forecast a strong storm system that was expected to bring wet accumulation of between 2 to 5 inches, Patch reported. One round of snowfall was expected Monday night through early Tuesday, followed by a second round Tuesday afternoon.

As a result of closed school buildings, students were instructed to use emergency learning plans to find more information about activities, attendance, assignments and class schedules.

All activities and building rentals, as well as Kids Connection programs, are canceled Tuesday, too. Officials said high school athletics will be determined late morning, and communication will be sent out regarding meets or practices.
