Oswego Lego League Still Strong in Fourth Year

The program now has two teams and both will compete Dec. 13 against 14 others.

First Lego League Robotics (FLL) began at Murphy Junior High School in 2012 when the school opened. With the growing interest year after year, the program has now expanded to two teams. Experienced coach Ben Bittner was joined this year by Kevin Wilson to continue the success of this club.

The FLL experience is more than building with Legos. The tournaments that the teams compete in include elements of teamwork, research and development, and robotics. Different themes for the tournaments have included: helping senior citizens, surviving natural disasters, solving the world’s trash problems, and much more.

On Dec. 13, both of the FLL teams will travel to the regional competition at Oswego East High School to compete against 14 other teams for a chance to move on to the State Competition. Placing in the top three teams or winning one of three other awards, will grant the opportunity to go to a state competition. Continued success at the state level leads to national and international competition opportunities.

While being a part of FLL requires a large amount of dedication, focus, imagination and teamwork, everyone still has a lot of fun.
