Oswego March For Our Lives Event Set For Saturday
The Oswego event is one of at least 10 planned for the Chicago area Saturday.

OSWEGO, IL — Demonstrators in Oswego are slated to take part in a March For Our Lives event, one of at least 10 happening throughout Chicagoland on Saturday in the wake of the Feb. 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The event is slated to take place at 11 a.m. at Oswego High School, 4250 Route 71.
"If you are against gun violence, please stand with me," the Oswego event Facebook page asks. "If you want to be the voice of the ones who can no longer be heard, please stand with me. If you want to be the voice of the grieving families, please stand with me."

An organizer posted on Patch to note that Oswego High School and District 308 are not involved with the event, adding, "The site was chosen for the high visibility and to continue the momentum the students from Parkland, Florida have started. It is a good location to represent the lives lost on (Feb. 14) which were 3 adults, 7-14 year olds. 2-15 year olds, a sixteen year old, 3-17 year olds and an eighteen year old ... The purpose is to provide a safe place where people can come and remember those from this disaster as well as the, much too frequent, victims of gun violence and mass shootings. It is to provide an opportunity to the community to offer solutions on how to fix this problem. The intent is to promote, to our lawmakers, that kids and families lives and safety have to be a priority. A goal is to persuade common sense legislation."
The Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school tragedy has galvanized many of the nation's young people, sparking school walkouts and calls for new gun control laws.
