Oswego's very own join the cast of Listen To Your Mother

Oral storytelling has been a necessary tradition in every culture that has existed since the beginning of spoken language. Long before hieroglyphics, cuneiform, and eventually the written word, people passed down their history by actually speaking to each other.

In this information and technological age where so much can be lost in the written word, Listen To Your Mother carries on the great responsibility and tradition of verbally passing along the stories of our lives.  The stories read by the women and men reflect the diverse range of experiences that we all call motherhood. Though each of the stories are as unique as the person who lived it, each story tugs at the universal emotions that run deep through us all.

In 2010, Ann Imig founded Listen To Your Mother in Madison, Wisconsin in an effort to bring to the stage and bring to the microphone the story of motherhood in all its dynamics.  Since then, the movement has grown to 32 cities across the country.

This year, two of Oswego’s very own join the list of cast members that take the stage to share their own personal stories of motherhood.  Sarah Watts, author, mom of two young children and blogger at Wifeytini.com, and myself - Meggan Sommerville, mom of two teenagers and blogger at Trans Girl at the Cross, have the honor of joining 13 other fantastic writers from all over the Chicagoland area for Chicago’s third annual Listen To You Mother presentation.

On Sunday May 4th, The Athenaeum Theater in Chicago once again plays host to Chicago’s presentation.  The show kicks off at 2:00 pm and tickets are still available.

Each year a portion of the ticket proceeds goes to local causes. This year, 10% proceeds will be donated to Recovery on Water, a support service and exercise program for women who are currently in treatment or have been through treatment for breast cancer.
