Police Identify Pedestrian Killed In Recent Crash

It happened early Friday on Washington Street.

OSWEGO, IL — The Oswego Police Department has released the name of the Oswego woman killed early Friday when she was hit by an SUV while crossing Washington Street. Police said Beverly Zanko, 79, was trying to cross the street outside of a crosswalk around 6:30 a.m. when she was hit by 46-year-old Irene Madden, of Oswego, who was driving westbound on Washington, between Adams and Main Streets.

Police said Zanko was taken to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Madden was not injured, but police said she was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid and accident.

Washington Street was closed between Harrison and Main Street for an hour Friday.
