Teen With Gun Charged After Traffic Stop In Oswego Township: Sheriff

The Carol Stream resident was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and consumption of alcohol by a minor, among other offenses.

OSWEGO, IL — A 19-year-old from Carol Stream was found in possession of a gun during a traffic stop Saturday in Oswego Township, according to officials at the Kendall County Sheriff's Office.

At 11:34 p.m., deputies pulled over a driver for speeding in the area of Boulder Hill Pass and Briarcliff Road. Through an investigation, authorities discovered the driver, Esteban Alaniz, had a gun in the car with him, according to Deputy Daniel Briars.

Alaniz, of the 700 block of Cypress Lane in Carol Stream, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon
  • Driving while license suspended
  • Possession of a firearm and firearm ammunition without a Firearm Owners Identification card
  • Consumption of alcohol by a minor

Briars said it was alleged the teen had been drinking, but he was not over the legal limit of 0.08 to be charged with driving under the influence.

Alaniz was taken into custody and brought to the Kendall County jail for processing.
