Woman Scammed Out of $56K

A man claiming to be an engineer told the woman he had an accident and was in need of money. Oswego police are investigating the incident.

Oswego police are investigating a scam where a woman was bilked out of $56,000.

According to a release from the department, the woman wired the money to Malaysia over a period of two months.

The woman told police she had numerous conversations with a person on Facebook and on the phone. The scammer convinced the woman that he was an engineer who lived in London but was working in Malaysia and had an accident and needed money wired to him.

The woman began wiring money Oct. 7 and ended on or around Nov. 19.
