Palatine police, with assistance from the Arlington Heights Police Department, responded to the 1500 block of East Northwest Highway at around 9 p.m. Dec. 13, 2025, for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.

During the subsequent investigation, police learned the victim and Carrillo had arranged an in-person meeting through a social media platform to complete an online sale.
