Barb’s Precious Rescue Celebrates 10 Years at Annual Open House

Barb’s Precious Rescue and Adoption Center will host its Annual Open House on Saturday, September 28, from 1 to 4 p.m., marking a significant milestone—10 years of dedication to feline welfare. This event offers the public the chance to meet cats available for adoption, tour the facility, and learn about the Rescue’s exciting future plans.

This year’s event will spotlight the opening of the David A. Helt Veterinary Care Center, which will offer essential services such as spay/neuter procedures and dental care for rescue cats starting this fall. Attendees can also preview plans for a dedicated Adoption Center to be built on the adjacent lot.

The 2024 Open House highlights include:

• Meet adoptable cats and kittens
• Guided tours of the facility, including the new David A. Helt Veterinary Care Center
• Limited-edition merchandise, including purr-ple T-shirts ($15 short sleeve, $20 long sleeve), sweatshirts ($50), and water bottles ($15)
• Preview of plans for the new Adoption Center
• Appearances by beloved cat mascots Quentin, Babs, and Jerry
• Commemorative bricks available for the outdoor walkway
• Opportunities to donate toward veterinary services and facility expansions
• Sign-up for those interested in volunteering
• Raffle with fun prizes

Founded by Barb Weber in 2014, Barb’s Precious Rescue has grown from a small initiative into a fully operational shelter. With the support of community members and significant contributions from the Ehlert Family Foundation and the Wayne and Claudette Johnson Family, the shelter has expanded its capacity to house 250 cats and 6 dogs in a 7,500 sq. ft. facility.

Since its founding, Barb’s Precious Rescue has provided care for nearly 5,000 cats and kittens, offering food, shelter, and medical services, including on-site veterinary care. The rescue’s mission is to find forever homes for each animal, operating as a no-kill, cage-free shelter supported by public donations and over 200 volunteers.
