Boston Marathon 2017: How Palatine Runners Finished The Event

BOSTON, MA — Nearly a dozen runners from Palatine traveled to the East Coast to compete in the 121st annual Boston Marathon on Monday. Although no one from the village won the world-famous event this year, Heather Crowe was the resident with the fastest time, finishing in 2 hours, 58 minutes and 24 seconds. This was Crowe's fourth Boston Marathon, and she beat her 2016 time of 3:09:02.

Kenyans captured the marathon's men's and women's divisions Monday. Geoffrey Kirui ran a time of 2:09:37, and Edna Kiplagat finished in 2:21:53. Both runners were competing in their first Boston Marathon, and Kirui is the first Kenyan to win the marathon's men's division since 2012.

Two runners from the Nike Oregon Project — a training program based in Portland for long-distance runners — were the Americans with the fastest times in both divisions. Olympic medalist Galen Rupp earned a time of 2:09:58, which was good enough for second place behind Kirui. Jordan Hasay, Rupp's project teammate who was making her Boston Marathon debut, finished with a time of 2:23:00 for third place in the women's division.
