An American in Paris tells the story of Jerry Mulligan (Gene Kelly), an American ex-GI who stays in post-war Paris to become a painter. He falls for the gamine charms of Lise Bouvier (Leslie Caron). However, his paintings come to the attention of Milo Roberts, a rich American heiress, who is interested in more than Jerry’s art. Directed by Vincent Minelli, with music by the Gershwins, audiences will enjoy many classic musical numbers including “I Got Rhythm,” “’S Wonderful,” “Our Love is Here to Stay,” and more. The highlight of the film is the 16-minute ballet featuring Kelly and Caron set to Gershwin’s “An American in Paris.”
