District 15 School Board Election: Engage D15 Slate Captures Seats

Five candidates who ran on a platform of change defeated board incumbents Tuesday, according to unofficial results.

PALATINE, IL — Last year, the school board for Community Consolidated School District 15 came under fire from parents for a lack of transperancy surrounding two controversial moves: agreeing to an unprecedented 10-year contract with district teachers and putting a $130 million referendum to build two new schools and close another one on the November ballot.

The referendum's overwhelming defeat at the polls was the precursor to a slate of candiates — Engage D15 — running on a platform of change in April's school board election.

And change happened Tuesday as those candidates caputred the board's four open four-year seats, according to unofficial results. Barb Kain, another member of the Engage D15 slate, also defeated Dave Border in the race for the open two-year board seat.
