Former Palatine High Softball Standout Speaks Out About Transitioning to a Male
Ryan Logan, who was born as Lauren Logan, currently plays softball for the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

A former Palatine High School softball standout credits the support of his family in helping him transition from a female to a male, according to a recent Daily Herald article. Growing up as Lauren Logan, Logan was an all-time leading hitter and three-time softball team MVP at Palatine High, a three-time Mid-Suburban League All-Conference player and a Daily Herald All-Area selection.
Logan went on to play softball for the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the newspaper reports. Logan has undergone a double mastectomy but will forgo hormone treatments until he finishes playing college softball. He has legally changed his name from Lauren to Ryan.
“I can play a women’s sport as long as I’m not taking hormones,” Logan told the Daily Herald.
Since Logan did not realize he was transgender until the end of his senior year, he did not deal with any issues in high school surrounding which locker room or bathroom to use -- male or female. That issue has come to the forefront recently as Township High School District 211 has made national headlines after a transgender student -- who was born a male but identifies as a female -- sought open access to the girl’s locker room.
In a recent agreement with the Office of Civil Rights, the school district agreed to provide the student with a private changing area within the girl’s locker room but would not be provided full access.
