Harper Symphony Orchestra performs Oct. 11 for Latino Music Festival

Harper College will serve as one the host sites for the 10th annual Latino Music Festival, a celebration of music from Latin America, Spain and Portugal ranging from the baroque period to the 21st century.

The Harper Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Brian Groner and comprised of professional, community and college musicians, will perform a program of music celebrating Latin influences as part of the festival.

The concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Performing Arts Center on the College’s main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine. The Latin Music Festival features more than 20 concerts this fall.

Groner has been Music Director of the HSO since 2006. He’s also Music Director of the Fox Valley Symphony in Wisconsin and Conductor of the String Orchestra at Northeastern Illinois University. He has toured and conducted many notable ensembles including The San Diego Symphony, The Czech National Symphony Orchestra (Prague), The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (China), The Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and The Moscow Classical Ballet.

The Latino Music Festival, a core program of the International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago, features local talent including several of Chicago’s most prestigious orchestras, ensembles, soloists and talented young professionals. Concerts will take place throughout the Chicago area the rest of the year.
