Letter To The Editor: 'This Is Our Chance To Teach Our Children To Respect People With Differences'

Palatine resident Joyce Slavik is offended by "a group trying to ostracize transgender students" as part of District 211 election.

The following Patch Letter to the Editor was submitted by Palatine resident Joyce Slavik:

I am offended that a group trying to ostracize transgender students keeps saying that they are representing the community. They don't represent me, and I would hope that our community is one of equality and acceptance.

I'm voting for Klimkowicz, LeFevre and Yung who aren't simply hung up on bathroom policies but support quality education as well as respect for student equality. This is our chance to teach our children to respect people with differences rather than promote hate. Parents and adults with hang ups need to work through their issues without forcing them on our kids.
