Man Faces Aggravated Use of Weapon Charges Following Palatine Traffic Stop

The Des Plaines man was arrested over the weekend.

A 21-year-old Des Plaines man faces charges after police found two handguns on him during a traffic stop over the weekend.

A $50,000 bond has been issued for Xavier Virto who is charged with two counts of felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to a Palatine Police Department press release. 

The charges were issued after Palatine police pulled over a car Virto was in at about 1 a.m. on Sept. 20. The traffic stop came while Palatine police were participating in an IDOT traffic safety initiative and had extra patrol officers on the streets.

The vehicle was stopped for speeding in the 1200 block of West Northwest Highway. There were six passengers sitting in the back seat and none of them were wearing seatbelts, according to the news release.

While conducting a pat down on Virto, police said they found an unloaded Taurus 9mm, a loaded Rugar 9mm handgun and a 30-round magazine loaded with eight 9mm rounds.

Police arrested two other occupants of the car for vioating curfew laws.

Virto is next expected in court on Oct. 13.
