Palatine Jaycees to hold Family Field Day

As part of their Healthy Family Initiative, the Palatine Jaycees are hosting a Family Field Day on August 8th.

As part of their Healthy Family Initiative, the Palatine Jaycees are hosting a Family Field Day on August 8th from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Ost Field located at 250 East Wood Street in Palatine.

According to the Jaycees, the Family Field Day will teach families fun and economical ways to keep their families fit and active. Clinics will be set up with multiple stations demonstrating different physical activities. Give-a-ways and prizes will be available, including a chance to win Bears tickets.

“We are excited to promote the Healthy Family Initiative through this fun event. The Family Field Day is a fun way for the entire family to learn new ways to economically work together to stay healthy,” said Joe Skibbie, project chair. “Come out to enjoy a day of family fitness and nutrition education.”

To put on this event, the Jaycees have teamed up with area businesses, sport clubs and non-profits. Sponsors for the event include Palatine Park District, Gasperini Insurance Agency, Flux Life, Palatine Rugby Club, Northwest Community Health, Palatine Opportunity Center, Crossfit Pally, Explosive Speed Training and more.

The goal of the Palatine Jaycees’ Healthy Family Initiative is to provide support to Palatine families in educating them in development of healthy nutritional and activity habits through creation of events focused on nutrition and physical activity. The initiative, developed by the chapter’s Active Citizen Framework Committee, researched issues currently facing Palatine residents. The committee learned that obesity, particularly among children and teens, is not only a national “hot topic,” but also affects families in Palatine.

“Good health is the foundation of a successful community,” said Skibbie. “We are working with individuals from the Palatine Park District, Northwest Community Health Care System, School District, sports clubs, and community outreach organizations on this initiative.”

Every year, the Palatine Jaycees conduct numerous programs to serve the community and accumulate funds for operation of the Chapter and community donations. Included in these projects are the Fourth of July Festival (Hometown Fest), Christmas tree sales, Best Pizza Contest and others, which benefit the community directly and help raise money.

The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees, one of 60 local chapters throughout Illinois, has close to 100 members and is one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Jaycees provide individuals between the age of 21 and 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community.

The Palatine Chapter holds their monthly general meeting on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM at the American Legion Hall on Palatine Road in Palatine.
