Palatine Man Identified as DuPage River Drowning Victim
The 28-year-old Palatine man and a 22-year-old Plainfield woman were pulled from the DuPage River on Monday.

SHOREWOOD, IL — A 28-year-old Palatine man and a 22-year-old Plainfield woman have been identified as the couple that drowned in the DuPage River near Hammel Woods in Shorewood earlier this week. The Will County Coroner's Office said the bodies of Abraham Ramos and Hannah Temmeling were recovered Monday from the DuPage River. Ramos was pronounced dead around 10:45 a.m. and Tammeling was pronounced dead around 2:10 p.m. Monday. Both drowned, officials said.
Officials say witnesses called 911 after seeing a man and woman in the river shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday. Rescue workers began searching for the pair shortly after receiving the call.
On Monday morning, Troy Fire Protection District Chief Andy Doyle told reporters that rescue personnel had recovered the man's body. The woman had remained missing, but her body was eventually found Monday afternoon near the Shorewood footbridge.

Doyle said authorities still do not know how Ramos and Temmeling wound up in the water or why they were near the dam. The couple were not boating, officials said.
"We believe the male went in first and the female went in after to help," Doyle told reporters at Monday's press conference. "How he got in the water or why he got in the water we don't know. We have no idea what they were doing there."
