Palatine Man Takes Plea Deal in Grayslake Hotel Meth Lab Case

Martin Bloomberg was sentenced to 18 months of periodic imprisonment after pleading guilty to a lesser charge in the case.

PALATINE, IL — A Palatine man accused of using a Grayslake hotel room as a meth lab for more than a month accepted a plea deal Wednesday, the Daily Herald reports.

Martin P. Bloomberg, 40, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of methamphetamine manufacturing material. He was sentenced to 18 months of periodic imprisonment, 100 hours of community service and 30 months of probation. Bloomberg also must pay the hotel for damages, and the amount he owes will be determined at an Oct. 20 hearing, according to the report.

Bloomberg originally was facing multiple drug charges after his arrest on March 28. He could've faced 6 to 30 years in prison if convicted on the most serious charge.

After receiving a tip about a potential meth lab, police confronted Bloomberg as he walked out of his room at Comfort Suites Hotel, 1775 E. Route 120. Officers returned with a search warrant for the room, which was guarded by two pit bulls, and found materials and equipment used in making methamphetamine. Because some of the chemicals in the room were considered a safety hazard, the hotel was temporarily evacuated.
