Palatine Police Warn Of New Money Scam
A Palatine officer's wife recently received a "group text message" offering her $500 cash to place an advertisement on her car, police said.
PALATINE, IL—The Palatine Police Department is warning residents of a new money scam that is currently circulating throughout the community.
According to police, an officer's wife recently received a “group text message” offering her $500 cash if she'd allow a graphics company to install a Mt. Dew advertisement on her vehicle and provided a link for her to sign up.
Fortunately, the officer's wife knew the opportunity sounded too good to be true and didn't fall prey to the scam.

However, for people who do click on the link and sign up, police say the scammers will send them a check for $500. Once the check is cashed, and the money is spent, police say unsuspecting victims eventually discover afterwards that it is, in fact, a bogus check.
"You will be responsible to reimburse the bank plus fees," the police department warned in a Facebook post. "Don’t fall for this bogus text scam."
