Palatine Resident serves on USS Eisenhower in Red Sea

Palatine resident Airman Lisa Flowers, serving in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, was deployed with a battle group to the Mediterranean Sea and then traveled through the Suez Canal to the Red Sea.

Departing from Naval Station Norfolk, the flagship Eisenhower joined guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea, guided-missile destroyer USS Gravely and guided-missile destroyer USS Mason in the Mediterranean before transiting to the Red Sea.

According to Carrier Strike Group public affairs, the strike group was scheduled to deploy to the U.S. European Command area of responsibility where it engaged with allies and partners in support of maritime statecraft, which encompasses naval diplomacy and national efforts to build comprehensive U.S. and allied maritime power.

Flowers graduated from Fremd High School where she was the captain of the girls’ water polo and swim teams and took advanced classes for college. While in high school, Flowers regularly volunteered at the Palatine American Legion fish fries and Thanksgiving Adopt-a-Sailor dinners. After graduation from Fremd, she chose to enlist in the United States Navy.
