Police were called to the scene of the crash, which occurred in the 2300 block of North Hicks Road, on March 8 after witnesses reported seeing two male occupants fleeing the scene on foot with one of them carrying what appeared to be a black rifle, according to a Palatine Police Department report.
The teens, Marco Vasquez, 19, and Christian Ruiz, 19, both of 511 Spruce Drive in Palatine, were arrested minutes later a short distance from the crash. Police conducted a search of the area and found a rifle-style BB gun that had been discarded in a bush, according to the news release.
The roommates are accused of breaking into a detached building at Arlington Toyota, 2031 N. Rand Road in Palatine, by forcing their way in through an overhead garage door, police said. Once inside, they found an ignition key for the 2015 Nissan Versa.
Vasquez is charged with felony unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and Ruiz is charged with felony burglary, according to the news release.
