PALATINE, IL — Like Columbus Day in October, Presidents Day — celebrated annually the third Monday of February — is one of those tricky national holidays that is hard to know which businesses and services are open and operating and which aren't.
Although it's a federal holiday, most retailers around the village will be open. But it's always idea to call ahead and check.

Schools: No classes for District 15 and District 211 schools.
Palatine Village Government: The Village Hall will be closed, and the Village Council meeting — regularly held Mondays — will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21. State and federal government offices will be closed, too.

Palatine Public Library: All library branches will be open.
Postal Service: No mail delivery, and all post offices will be closed.
Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed. Call ahead to be sure.
Trash Pickup: Garbage collection service will not be affected by the holiday.
