Residents and business owners are invited to attend a Community Workshop on Wednesday to discuss the future of Downtown Palatine.
Residents and business owners are invited to attend a Community Workshop on Wednesday, January 13 from 7 PM to 9 PM to discuss the creation of a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Plan for Downtown Palatine. The workshop will be held at the American Legion at 122 W. Palatine Road.
The Village of Palatine, with funding assistance from the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), is working to create a TOD Plan for the downtown district within a ¼ mile walking distance of the existing Metra station.
TOD plans focus on downtown improvements that encourage the use of the public transit systems and identify ways to pair economic development with transportation improvements at appropriate locations. Plan strategies can include but are not limited to identifying potential development sites, business attraction strategies, creating a safer walking environment, encouraging active ground floor uses, expanding housing options, analyzing existing parking, reviewing current zoning and increasing downtown event programming. The planning process will take place over 10 months and the final plan is anticipated to be complete in summer of 2016.
