Say Yes to the Dress at PHS!

Dresses are being collected this week for the April 8 Say Yes to the Dress at PHS event!

Palatine High School is currently collecting new and gently used formal wear items for the “Say Yes to the Dress at PHS” program. The coordinators are accepting prom and special occasion dresses, shoes, jewelry, and garment bags at Palatine High School from February 29 to March 3 from 7:30am to 4:00pm at the main office at Palatine High School, 1111 North Rohlwing Road, Palatine. A generous PHS parent has offered to make jewelry to match some of the dresses that are collected, and a “Say Yes to the Dress at PHS” flyer has been created by Palatine High School student Alicja Babicz.

Over fifty dresses were collected after the Homecoming season at Palatine High School, and the goal is to have between 100 and 125 dresses for the shopping event. Distribution of the dresses will take place on April 4 beginning during 8th period at school, in time for girls to “shop” for prom dresses and accessories. Complete shopping day details will be available for students at Palatine High School through flyers, announcements, and video shout-outs.

According to Joyce Richardson, one of the PHS staff members working on the project, “We want this to be a program from which all girls will benefit. No one needs to spend $700 on a prom dress, and we certainly do not want the cost to prohibit anyone from enjoying their prom. Our goal is to outfit as many girls as possible and use a minimal fee to generate more opportunities in the future for our students.”

When asked for their support, the PHS Pirate Boosters joined the project immediately. Alissa DePue, Booster Club co-president, said “Whenever we are asked to support the Palatine High School community, whether it is a student, staff member, or department, we are more than willing to help. This opportunity provides an affordable option for those who wish to attend an exciting high school event and we are happy to be a part of it.”
