Say Yes to the Dress at Palatine High School
The Say Yes to the Dress at PHS shop will be open April 6 and 7 for PHS students to shop for dresses and accessories for prom.
Dresses have been collected at Palatine High School since October, creating the new “Say Yes to the Dress” closet to assist PHS students with the purchase of affordable dresses and accessories for prom 2016. The support shown from both students and the community has resulted in a wonderful selection of items for this project.
The highlight of the program will be the two shopping days being offered at Palatine High School, 1111 N. Rohlwing Road, Palatine, on April 6 and April 7 from 3:30pm to 5:00pm in the Preschool room at the school. Palatine High School students will be able to shop through the new and gently used formal wear items donated to the program. Items that have been collected, cleaned, and prepared for this new event include special occasion dresses, shoes, jewelry, and garment bags. The “Say Yes to the Dress” store is open to anyone looking for a prom dress, and dresses will be priced at $10 each. Dresses will be just $5 if returned in good condition after the dance. A generous PHS parent has also offered to make jewelry to match the dresses. The “Say Yes to the Dress at PHS” flyer created by Palatine High School student Alicja Babicz is posted throughout the hallways and classrooms at Palatine High School to promote the event.
According to Joyce Richardson, one of the PHS staff members working on the project, “We want this to be a program from which all girls will benefit. No one needs to spend $700 on a prom dress, and we certainly do not want the cost to prohibit anyone from enjoying their prom. Our goal is to outfit as many girls as possible and use a minimal fee to generate more opportunities in the future for our students.”
