Two Dead After Driver Flees Hit-and-Run Crash, Collides With Second Vehicle: Police

The crash occurred Monday night in Schaumburg.

Two are dead after police said a 19-year-old Elk Grove Village man fled the scene of a minor hit-and-run collision in Schaumburg Monday night and collided with another vehicle, which was driven by a 30-year-old Schaumburg woman, according to the Daily Herald. The collision at Springinsguth and Hartmann roads at 7:06 p.m. killed both drivers.

Police said the teen, Michael Owsiany, struck the driver’s side of a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant, driven by Erin Semerad. Semerad had been stopped at a stop sign on Hartmann and was attempting to turn left onto northbound Springinsguth, the newspaper reports. Owsiany was fleeing the scene of the minor collision at the time and police said Semerad may have underestimated how fast Owsiany was going when she turned in front of him.

Semerad was pronounced dead at the scene and Owsiany was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A 23-year-old passenger in Owsiany’s vehicle is in critical condition, according to the article.
