Wil-Kil Pest Control's Pest of the Month: Spiders, the Guests That Just Won't Leave
Wil-Kil provides eight tips for taking down these eight-legged creepy crawlers!
Do you have some houseguests that just don’t seem to ever want to leave? No, we’re not talking about your Aunt Ethel. These eight-legged creepy crawlies are much, much worse. According to Wil-Kil Pest Control’s August service reports, spiders were among the top three most frequently treated pests last month, and the bad news is, these home invaders are here to stay. No need to fret though, because Wil-Kil Pest Control has you covered with a few tips!
Spiders seek out secluded, undisturbed areas where they can build a web to catch their next feast, which means attics, basements, garages and seldom used closets could be harboring these pests, and homeowners should pay special attention to those areas of the house. Wil-Kil experts also suggest keeping the following tips in mind:
- Install screens and weather stripping on windows and door sweeps on doors
- Fix any cracks in siding and walls, especially where pipes or wires enter the home
- Store firewood at least 20 feet away from the house
- Wear heavy gloves when moving items that have been stored for a long period of time and keep garages, attics and basements clutter free
- Inspect items such as boxes of decorations and grocery bags before bringing them indoors
- Store clothing inside plastic containers and check shoes before putting them on, as spiders tend to hide out there
- Avoid keeping clothing and shoes on the floor
- If you suspect a spider has bitten you, contact your primary care physician for medical advice
- If you have a spider infestation in your home, contact a licensed pest professional
Don’t let these pests pester you this year! Taking a few extra precautions to avoid spiders can help ease your mind and ensure that your home is free of arachnids. Share your tips in the comments below and together we can kick out these guests for good!
