Woman, 78, Dies in Palatine House Fire

UPDATED: Firefighters pulled Hazel Keisler from the blaze Thursday night, but paramedics couldn't revive her.

PALATINE, IL — Firefighters were unable to save a 78-year-old woman who died in a house fire Thursday night, according to the Daily Herald.

The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled that Hazel J. Keisler died from carbon monoxide toxicity and inhalation of products of combustion, the report states. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire that led to Keisler's accidental death, the report added.

The residential blaze in the 300 block of Slade Street was reported to the Palatine Fire Department at around 7:30 p.m., the report stated. Police were able to save Keisler's son, who was treated at the scene, the report added.

Firefighters were able to pull Keisler from the kitchen, but paramedics couldn't revive her, according to the report. A fire department official told the Herald that debris in the house hampered rescue efforts.
