22-Year-Old Man Charged With Weapons, Drug Offenses: Police

A juvenile was also charged after threatening to 'empty a clip' into a male subject at the scene where police discovered a loaded gun.

PALOS HILLS, IL – A 22-year-old Hickory Hills man was arrested on Sunday and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon along with other weapons and drug charges, Palos Hills Police announced Tuesday.

In addition to the weapons possession charge, Waleed Assad was also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without proper identification and possession of cannabis, police said.

According to a news release, police were called to a parking lot in the 10,000 block of Harlem Ave. a7 7:30 p.m. Sunday in relation to an aggravated assault complaint. Assad and a juvenile relative had come to the location for the purpose of Assad getting a haircut. According to police, a group of males approached the car after Assad had exited the vehicle and began speaking with the juvenile about the vehicle’s sound system.

When the juvenile recognized the subjects from a previous incident, the juvenile threatened to “empty a clip” into one of the male subjects, police said. One of the males called the police and reported he felt threatened. The juvenile had exited the scene by the time police arrived and after speaking with Assad, police discovered a loaded firearm under the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

The juvenile returned to the scene and was taken into custody, police said, and was charged with aggravated assault and released to a parent in Tinley Park. The juvenile’s case will be forwarded to the Juvenile State’s Attorney’s Office.

Assad was taken into custody and appeared in court for a bond hearing on Monday.
