The prosecutor said that Rico entered the Dunkin’ Donuts store at 12510 S. Cicero Ave., Alsip, on April 5. Rico is alleged to have produced a porcelain replica gun and demanded that the employee hand over all the cash.

The employee, thinking the gun was real, emptied the cash register of $131.

Police saw Rico fleeing the parking lot in a white Chevy Lumina when they arrived on the scene, the prosecutor said.

Rico allegedly drove at speeds reaching 70mph ignoring all traffic lights. The chase ended when police said he crashed into a residential yard in the 4200 block of West 117th Street, damaging the landscape.

Police recovered the replica gun, which they described as a novelty item, possibly a decorative cap used for a liquor bottle.

According to the prosecutor, Rico has no prior criminal record.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Rico lives in Alsip and is a graduate of Eisenhower High School in Blue Island.

Rico was also charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property.

Judge Felice set bail at $30,000 and told him to stay away from Dunkin Donuts.

Rico is due back in court May 3 in Bridgeview.
