PALOS HEIGHTS, IL—Representatives from Elevate Blue and Huuso Bio surprised the Palos Heights Police Department Tuesday afternoon with the Elevate Blue Scholarship Award following the department's successful community voting campaign.
Palos Heights police earned the highest number of votes during the week-long public voting period after being selected as one of the scholarship finalists. The award will provide funding for advanced leadership training for the department's newest sergeant, helping further develop future leadership within the organization.
The Elevate Blue scholarship for advanced training will be used to provide invaluable training for the department's newest sergeant through the esteemed Northwestern University Center for Public Safety. The $5,000 scholarship will help cover those costs so that valuable resources can be redirected toward other important department needs.
Palos Heights competed against several much larger municipalities, but community members rallied around the police department.
“Chief Mike Yott and department members would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the residents, local businesses, elected officials, community organizations, and supporters who helped make this achievement possible,” police said in a statement. “The Palos Heights Police Department extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted, shared the campaign, and supported this effort. This achievement is a reflection of the strong partnership between the department and the community it proudly serves.”
The Elevate Blue Scholarship is sponsored by Huuso Bio, an IICR crime scene and biohazard environmental remediation company.
