Another Check Tied To Bridgeview Post Office Washed
This is the fifth incident this month of a Palos Hills resident's checks being washed and altered mailed from the Bridgeview Post Office.
PALOS HILLS, IL — Another Palos Hills resident has fallen victim to a check-washing scheme that is rampant throughout the Chicago area, police said. This is the fifth incident of check tampering involving the USPS branch in Bridgeview.
The resident mailed a check for $200 in the boxes outside the Bridgeview Post Office, 7401 W. 100th Place. When the check didn’t post, the resident contacted the bank. The amount on the check had been changed to $12,000. An attempt was made to deposit the check into an unknown account.
Bridgeview police were recently called to the Bridgeview postal branch for a report of stolen keys and mail. The theft is being investigated by the U.S. Postal Police.

Residents who recently used the exterior mailboxes at Bridgeview or any USPS branch, and believe their mail to be stolen or altered, should immediately report the theft to their local police department. Local law enforcement will initiate an investigation by the federal postal inspector.
