Community artists' work sought for Moraine Valley juried art show
Original watercolors, oils, printmaking, sculptures, ceramics, photographs, and mixed media are needed for Moraine Valley Community College’s Gallery 2012 Community Art Show. Accepted works will be on display May 30 through August 1 in the Robert F. DeCaprio Art Gallery in the Fine and Performing Arts Center on campus, 9000 W. College Pkwy., Palos Hills.
Awards for first, second, and third place, as well as three honorable mentions will be presented during a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 2. Award winners or their representatives are encouraged to be present at the reception.
Eligible artists must be at least 18 years old and live within 50 miles of the college. Each artist may submit two original works for jurying. All works must have been made in the last five years (after 2007) and be ready to hang. Works on paper and photography must be under glass or plexiglass. Two-dimensional works should not exceed 48” x 48”, and three-dimensional works should not weigh more than 100 pounds.

Works must be hand delivered to the art gallery on Thursday, May 24, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or Friday, May 25, from 9 a.m. to noon. The non-refundable entry fee is $15 per work, and checks can be made payable to Moraine Valley Community College. All works accepted for exhibition will be insured while on the Fine and Performing Arts Center premises until August 3, when all submitted works must be picked up.
Accepted works will be juried by Cortney Leeder, director of Exhibitions and Community Initiatives at the Chicago Artists’ Coalition (CAC). Leeder has extensive curatorial and fundraising experience and oversees CAC’s exhibitions throughout Chicago. Jurying will take place in the gallery on Saturday, May 26.
