Get Outside: The Kids Guide to Fun in the Great Outdoors

A new book called Get Outside: The Kids Guide to Fun in the Great Outdoors offers dozens of fun activities based on seasons and interests.

We like living near the forest preserves. It's one of the reasons we moved here. Still, there are times we could use a little inspiration when it comes to new ways to enjoy the natural beauty of our forest preserves.

A new book arrived on my doorstep that has lots of ways to take advantage of our forest preserves. Get Outside: The Kids Guide to Fun in the Great Outdoors by Jane Drake & Ann Love organizes activities by season so there's always something new to try.

Each season is divided between into four categories: Nature Lover, Outdoor Fun and Games, Snug Inside and Look to the Sky. We bookmarked several activities in Nature Lover and Look to the Sky for this weekend.

What I like about the book is we already have everything we need around the house. There aren't many activities that require more than items to get started. The rest is up to your imagination and creativity.

It feels like a long time has passed since I was a kid trying to fill long summer days. This book helps me give our girls a little inspiration while taking advantage of our beautiful wooded surroundings. It's worth reserving a copy at your local public library.
